                                                              “Responding to the Screen: Cutting-Edge Approaches to Measuring Communication Behavior” featuring Glenn Cummins, Ph.D.

                                                              Glenn Cummins headshotGlenn Cummins serves as Director of the Center for Communication Research (CCR) in the Texas Tech College of Media and Communication. The CCR is the country’s leading academic lab for studying how people process and respond to communication messages. The lab is home to state-of-the-art technology for studying all aspects of audience response to media messaging, including an audience-testing lab, content analysis lab, experimental lab, eye-tracking lab, focus group room and psychophysiology lab. The CCR provides research services to those within and beyond the TTU community, and regularly partners with groups from a variety of industries and businesses on applied projects.

                                                              Dr. Cummins is also an associate professor and associate dean for research in the College of Media and Communication and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in audience research methods and technologies. He is a member of the Teaching Academy at Texas Tech University and is a past recipient of the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award. He previously worked in television as a news producer, videographer and editor.

                                                              “Women Leaders in Our Community” featuring Alona Beesinger

                                                              alona-beesingerSince 2002, Alona Beesinger has worked for the Lubbock-area cable system, known since 2006 as Suddenlink Communications. Her current title is Sales and Community Manager. Alona’s responsibilities in this role encompass all aspects of the company’s public relations and community outreach efforts in Lubbock, Plainview and surrounding Suddenlink-served communities. She also is the manager of a direct sales force and the retail operations.

                                                              Prior to her cable career, Alona was a 10-year Customer Service Manager at electric utility provider Southwestern Public Service, where she worked for 25 years. From 2011-2013, Alona served on the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Board as treasurer and chaired the 2012 Total Resource Campaign. She served as Chairwoman for the Lubbock Chamber for the year of 2014 and is currently serving on the Board of Directors. Alona also volunteers with the American Diabetes Association, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, American Heart Association and several other civic organizations.

                                                              Alona and her husband, Joel, have raised their sons in the Lubbock community. They are proud to call Lubbock home.

                                                              “Having THE Talk – The Birds & Bees of Finances with your Loved Ones” featuring Greg Pare

                                                              greg-pareThe Wall Street Journal reports that nearly half of adult children have witnessed their parents’ diminishing abilities to handle financial affairs. More importantly, these adult children are thrust into the role of decision-makers for their parents with no prior knowledge of affairs. Part of leaving a legacy and good stewardship requires having THE talk with your loved ones.

                                                              This presentation will give you tips, guidelines and even a comprehensive checklist of what you as parents should share with your children, and how. As children, it will also give you suggestions on initiating the conversation with your parents.

                                                              Among other career successes, Greg Pare built a multimillion-dollar technology company from scratch, which he sold after 20 years of ownership. His careful management of both his company’s finances and his personal finances, together with his training, qualifies him to coach others. He is passionate about helping people achieve financial peace in their lives. He co-founded MyMoneyWellness.com, co-authored the Personal Finance Playbook series, and now devotes his time encouraging others through coaching and speaking.
